Mike Testa of Visit Sacramento will kick-off your 75th Annual Conference with an interesting overview of Sacramento and its nexus to harbors, ports and marinas – plus share some ideas for having fun in town.

Beau Biller of Platinum Advisors will share the latest and hopefully the greatest news on current legislation and what is coming up. Also, Beau will give a primer on “I’m Just a Bill on Capitol Hill” (remember that School House Rock?)
2:30p Using Grant Writers to Access Federal And State Grants
Mike Bahr, Community System Solutions will talk about writing and submitting successful grant proposals during this time when there is more federal and state grant funds than ever before. Recreation (WATER Program)
Susana Espinosa of the County of Los Angeles, Department of Beaches and Harbors will share this program that aims to increase access to public beaches and harbors for traditionally underserved youth, including system-involved youth, those with special needs and mobility challenges. This is a program that can be replicated in your harbor, port or marina.

1:30p Division of Boating and Waterways Update
Welcome Deputy Director of the Division of Boating and Waterway Ramona Fernandez to provide a great update about current happenings with DBW, grant opportunities, program changes and updates and other news from the Division.
2:30p Talking to Decision Makers/Impactful Public Testimony
The ability to have an “effective elevator speech when talking to decision makers is so important. As are the skills of making impactful public testimony when advocating for our ports harbors and marinas. James Haussener – Executive Director, California Marine Affairs and Navigation Conference (CMANC) will share his expertise in these areas

3:30p Office of Emergency Services/USGS
The last two sessions of the day will be dedicated to interactive discussions and presentation on dealing with natural disasters and their short term and long terms effects. The presenters will cover of number of pertinent topics relevant to all harbors, ports and marinas – more information to come/stay tuned.
